Mayya, its time to make your own clothes!

I remember mentioning a couple of times on my blog that i would like to attempt to make my own clothes..however to this day they are merely words on my blog and i want to change that.

You see the thing, is that I am a self taught sewist learned how to sew from tutorials found on blogs and lots and lots of trial and error..i mainly make bags and accessories because they are not too complicated and i am able to finish them in a couple of hours.

However i think the main reason i havent ventured into making clothes for my self is because i had such a bad experience when i attended sewing classes back in 2008. As a novice the first project i was given to make was a girls dress!!! You can read my experience here & here.

I discovered that i am a visual learner i need to see how things are done to really understand which is why i still want someone to teach me how to sew clothes (so if you know anyone in Oman who is willing to teach me, PLEASE let me know).

In the mean time though i am going to push myself to make a top i need something that is long enough to cover my behind, has to have long sleeves and is a loose fit, my top 3 picks are:

1. School House Tunic by Sew Liberated

2.Patricia Tunic by Sis Boom

3. Hazel color block bow tie chemise dress by Victory Patterns

So the question is which one do you recommend i start with? leave me a comment with your choice 1,2 or 3? or is there another pattern you would recommend i start with?

Much love

I’ve been looking forward to this post :)

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the tunics that you’ve posted. It’s a toss up between 1 and 3.

Long loose tunics are definitely a modest wardrobe must-have. I’ve been meaning to make one with either one of these patterns:

Good luck Mayya! Do let us know how you get on.

That’s a great idea to sew ur clothing urself. I always sew my clothes myself u can see pics in my blog . I wish u were in UK I would love to teach u as I have done sewing courses, anyway my suggestion is is #2 tunic is good for u to start as it s still hard specially the front neckline part at the front . Good luck inshAllah x

I just found your blog, MashaAllaah I love it!… I recommend the first pattern. It looks pretty simple for beginner clothing sewing. I am still in the beginning phase of sewing too, and this is something I would choose.

I suggest the pattern number 2 – looks stylish and modest!
